Coming into the 8th week on this project, we have realized that time is a main issue. We have one interview completed and edited, but we still need to complete a couple more interviews. The editing process is also more complicated than we have thought. It's very hard to make several clips into an interesting movie. We have about 20 minutes or interesting footage, but only about 10 minutes for it in our movie, not including all the other interviews and b-roll we need to add as well.
This process of creating a documentary has been a lot of fun for us. It's amazing to see the amount of people affected by distracted driving in our city alone. So many people have amazing stories that you wouldn't know about unless you dug deep into their personal lives.

Creating a documentary could take a lot of time but it is a great idea. An alternative idea could be maybe doing a shorter commercial that is a little more engaging instead of a full documentary. This would not only take less time but could be more engaging to the viewers as well.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I really like your project and think it's great that you've made progress! :) I'd suggest just trying to finish as much as you can by the end of the semester, and even if you don't finish, that's fine- you can always continue and finish your project well into next year too. It's pretty scary that there are many distracted drivers on the road... If you have time, I'd suggest interviewing Mr.Yim because he once told us a story about how he hallucinated and almost got into an accident one day because he hadn't had enough sleep. It's a pretty interesting story, and relevent to your project as well! And since it involves sleep and the lack of it, you can also relate the story to anatomy. Goodluck guys! =]
ReplyDeleteIt's good to see that you're having so much fun with your project. I never realized that so many people were affected by distracted driving in our city. If you are struggling with editing, you should maybe ask some MAP students to help out. They will probably know some editing techniques that can help make your movie more interesting. In terms of the movie, how long are you aiming for it to be? Good luck!
ReplyDeleteDistracted driving is a big problem. I am excited to see this documentary, I think it will be something very interesting that we can all learn from. It will be extremely beneficial for teenagers. We normally don't think about the consequences and what could happen while texting and driving, so I believe this will be an eye opener to many people. I look forward to watching your finished video!
ReplyDeleteIt seems as though my comment never posted.. Anyway, nice progress! If need be, you two can leave it at a couple people to interview and make the portions for those two people really strong. You can do it! I'm excited to watch your final product!
